This kind of treatment also employs the practice of adding minerals to herbal medicine known as rasa shastra. Minerals, including sulfur, arsenic, lead, copper sulfate and gold are used in this method.

Ayurveda treatment has four components to follow in order to make the medication effective. First, the physicians who practice this treatment must have technical skill, scientific knowledge, purity and human understanding. Third, all nursing personnel need to have good knowledge of nursing. He or she must know the skills of their art and be affectionate, sympathetic, intelligent, neat, clean and resourceful. And the last importance is the patient himself. The patient should be cooperative and obedient to follow instructions of the physician, able to describe ailments and ready to provide all that may be needed for treatment. Proper diet, exercise and good living style are recommended too.

There are several classifications of this treatment used depending on the needs of the patients. These are the Shodhana therapy or called as purification treatment, Shamana therapy or Palliative Treatment., Pathya Vyavastha or prescription of diet and activity, Nidana Parivarjanam or avoidance of disease causing and aggravating factors, Satvavajaya or psychotherapy, and Rasayana therapy or the use of immune-modulators and rejuvenation medicines.
