Ayurveda approach
According to Ayurveda, diabetes is a metabolic kapha
disorder. The function of agni (digestive fire) diminishes and
this results in a tendency toward high blood sugar. The following
Ayurveda treatment can help control high blood sugar:
· By reducing kapha
Follow a kapha-pacifying diet. Eat more fresh vegetables and bitter
herbs. Avoid excess consumption of sweets, food and drinks high
in sugar content, carbodydrates and dairy products.
· Copper drink
Place a cup of water in a copper vessel during the night. Drink
the water in the next morning
· Herbal mixture
Take ½ teaspoon of the herbal mixture below, twice or 3
times a day with warm water.
Herbal mixture:
1 part kutki
1 part shardunika
1 part guduchi
2 parts punarnava
· Aloe vera gel mix
Regulate your blood sugar level with this aloe vera mixture. Mix
½ teaspoon grounded bayleaf and ½ teaspoon tumeric
with 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel. Take this twice a day before
meals at lunch and dinner.
· Tumeric power
Tumeric is a simple but effective herb used for controlling blood
sugar. Use 00-size capsules, available from a pharmacy, and fill
it up with tumeric. Take 2 capsules thrice a day a few minutes
before meals. Continue taking the capsules for a month and reevaluate
your condition. If you are insulin dependent, your requirement
for insulin will eventually diminish and the diabetes can often
be controlled.
· Yoga exercises
The following yoga postures can benefit diabetic conditions: the
Sun Salutation and the Peacock pose, Chest-knee pose, Locust pose
and Left Lift. You can alternate these postures with Nostril breathing
exercises.
