Ayurveda approach
For increasing low libido, the Ayurvedic programs and remedies
can be effective in reducing stress and strengthening the reproductive
system.
The desire for pleasure and satisfaction, that is
libido, is derived from shukra dhatu (male reproductive tissue)
and artava dhatu (female reproductive tissue). According to Ayurveda,
libido is low when there is a weakness or debility in the male
or female reproductive tissue. In addition, low sexual drive can
be due to stress, health problems and even anxiety or emotional
problems. It may affect one’s relationships or marriage
but sometimes it is a healthy response by the body to shut off
excess loss of health giving vital fluid.
Sexual power is lacking in low libido and in the
Ayurveda approach, there are several ways to increase libido for
both men and women.
· Herbal remedy
For increased sexual drive, try this effective herbal brew.
Preparation:
1 part shatavari
1 part vidari
1/8 part nutmeg
½ part tagar
warm milk
Prescription:
Add 1 teaspoon of this mixture to a cup of warm milk. Drink this
twice a day, once in the morning and another cup in the evening.
Take this drink for a month for effective result.
· Food remedies
Increase low libido by eating the following aphrodisiacs and strengthening
concoctions:
1. Apple dessert
For this delicious strengthening concoction, you need:
5 apples
honey
10 drops of rosewater
1 pinch of saffron
1 pinch of nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon of powdered cardamom
Skin and core the apples and blend or mash them
into a pulp. Add honey according to taste, mixing thoroughly.
Put in the spices and rosewater.
Take ½ cup of this dessert at least 1 hour
after meal. Avoid taking milk, yoghurt and fish for about 4 hours
before and after taking the dessert.
2. Almonds
You can eat them raw or drink them. Either way, they are great
for increasing sex drive.
Breakfast snack
Eat 10 raw and unroasted almonds for breakfast. Soak the almonds
in water for a night, peel the skin next morning and eat them.
Almond drink
For a strengthening drink, you need:
10 raw almonds
1 cup warm milk
1 teaspoon natural sugar
a pinch of saffron
a pinch of nutmeg
Soak the 10 almonds overnight and peel the skin
off in the next morning. Add to the milk, together with the other
ingredients and blend well in a blender.
3. Dates
Combat low libido and sexual delility, even chronic fatigue with
this tasty date treat, 1 date daily every morning. To make this
preserved date, you need:
10 fresh dates
a quart jar of ghee
1 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon cardamom
1 pinch of saffron
Soak the dates in the jar of ghee and add the rest
of the ingredients. Cover the jar and store it in a warm place
for at least 12 days.
4. Honey with figs
Taken after breakfast, this light snack helps restore sexual drive.
Just eat 3 figs with a teaspoon of honey then 1 hour later, take
a glass of lassi.
5. Onions and garlic
Not particularly good food to take if you are planning to meditate
as they are somewhat dulling to the mind, if that is not a concern,
onions and garlic are helpful source of food.
Onion juice
You need:
1 tablespoon onion juice
1 teaspoon fresh ginger juice
Mix the onion and ginger juice and take it twice
a day.
Garlic Milk
You need:
1 cup milk
¼ cup water
a clove of chopped garlic
Add garlic to the milk and water, and boil gently
until 1 cup of the liquid is left.
Take this aphrodisiac drink at bedtime.
For Low Libido & constipation
Constipation can also be associated with low libido as the two
conditions are often found together. Take triphala daily to overcome
constipation.
Preparation:
½ teaspoon triphala powder
Brew triphala powder in a cup of hot water for about
10 minutes, letting it steep then strain and drink. Take this
every day.
For emotional and psychological factors
You can benefit from regular meditation if you have stress and
psychological problems like anxiety or fear that is causing low
libido. Go breathing exercises and yoga asanas like Vajra, Rooster,
Camel, and Nataraj.
Remedies just for men
· Strengthening drink
Just for men with low sex drive, this drink is simply effective.
You need:
1 teaspoon of ashwagandha
½ teaspoon vidari
warm milk
Warm milk over a stove and add all the herbal powder.
Drink it at night before bedtime.
· Massage therapy
with herbalized oils
Gently massage the penis with bala oil or shatavari ghee. You
can also use castor oil or bramhi ghee.
With your index finger, gently press the tip of
the penis or head. Applying this easy but effective technique
when massaging the penis, also helps premature ejaculation. Press
on the groove about an inch behind the tip of the penis to locate
the marma point that is in the centre of the groove. Press for
about a minute or two, then let go.
Remedy just for women
· herbal drink
This similar herbal formula drink is simply effective for women
only.
You need:
1 teaspoon of shatavari
½ teaspoon vidari
a cup of warm milk
Mix the herbal powders and add to warm milk.
Drink herbal milk at night before going to bed.
